Our Farm in Ladakh
Cherker sources its sea buckthorn from Nubra and high-plain village areas of Ladakh, where the berry grows in a high-altitude Himalayan cold desert landscape.
This page is about where our berries come from and why careful handling matters.
Sourced from Nubra
Nubra is one of Ladakh’s important sea buckthorn-growing regions. The valley’s cold desert climate, river landscapes, strong sunlight, and short growing season help shape the character of the berry.
For Cherker, sourcing from Nubra is not just about location. It is about working with a region where sea buckthorn is part of the land, local knowledge, and seasonal life.
High-plain village sourcing
We also source from high-plain village areas of Ladakh. These mountain environments are demanding: cold nights, dry air, strong sun, and a short harvest window.
Those conditions are part of what gives Ladakhi sea buckthorn its naturally tart taste, bright orange color, and distinctive Himalayan character.
Harvest handling matters
Sea buckthorn is a delicate berry. It has thin skin, juicy pulp, and a short shelf life after harvest. If it is not handled carefully, the fruit can lose freshness, taste, color, and overall quality.
That is why Cherker focuses on careful harvest handling and timely processing. Our goal is to move the berries from harvest to processing within a controlled harvest-day quality window, so the fruit is handled while it is still fresh.
From berry to bottle
Quality does not begin at the bottling stage. It begins with sourcing, harvest timing, handling, processing, packaging, and delivery.
Cherker manages these steps carefully so the product you receive stays true to the berry’s natural character: tart, bright, and rooted in Ladakh.
Built from the source
We are building Cherker from the place where our ingredient comes from. Nubra, the high plains, and the people of Ladakh are not a backdrop to the brand — they are the foundation.
Every bottle begins with the land, the harvest, and the care taken before it reaches you.
